It would be the downfall of most subject fields (especially the less frequented ones) if answerers could not disagree with others. I am happy to disagree with answers which I deem wrong, no matter if I have provided an answer or not. There definitely is a shortage of specialist translators contributing to kudoz in my field, so why force them to decide to either answer or make a peer comment? If this suggestion were to be implemented, it would not be for the good of kudoz and the kudoz glossary.

There are far to many "translators" (for want of a better word) around who venture outside their specialty field(s) (that is, if they have any at all) and propose answers straight from dictionaries or google searches with ludicrous confidence levels. I am having none of this and if I think an answer is rubbish, I will disagree with it.

A weighted peer commenting feature according to specialties comes to mind (discussed elsewhere)... but only briefly since anyone can claim any specialty, so it would not be a great help...

Mostly, I hang out in the German to English section, and at times, it has been very frustrating to see askers pick blatantly wrong answers and then create glossary entries that could turn out to be self-propagating. Claudia Alvis' observation that too many answerers (and agreers) do not read the context is right on the mark. And I also agree with Kay Barbara that Brownies should be abolished, especially for agreers who don't provide extra evidence to support a given answer. Like all crowdsourcin... See more

I suppose it is great with some context, and references, but I have seen many wrong and even outrageous "answers" backed up with numerous web references.
